Backgrind

Overview / Description

Backgrind is an AI coding agent tool that runs your agent in an always-on-top overlay window over any app — even a fullscreen game — so you can fire off a task and walk away until it needs a decision. Instead of babysitting a terminal, you get pinged only when the agent actually needs your input to approve or deny what it runs. It works as a thin frontend over your own agent CLI (Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex on your own account) so prompts and code never touch Backgrind's servers, or you can use Grindy, its hosted agent built on OpenCode plus Claude, which runs through their proxy with zero setup. Concrete features include a draggable, resizable, recolorable overlay with click-through transparency, multi-agent tabs to run several agents across several repos at once, on-device voice transcription via whisper.cpp so audio stays local, and a full developer view with file tree, raw diffs, and a real terminal when you want full control. You can also drive sessions from your phone with end-to-end encryption. As an AI coding agent tool it suits developers who want to delegate background coding work and review diffs without keeping a terminal in focus.
