Buddy is an open-source Tamagotchi-style virtual pet that runs inside Claude Code, Cursor, and any MCP-compatible client. It watches your work sessions in real time, reacts with personality-driven animations, and accumulates XP as you code. Choose from 21 species, each with unique stats, rarity tiers, and personality bios. Persistent state is stored locally via SQLite — your pet remembers your history across sessions. Originally rescued from Anthropic's discontinued /buddy feature, it installs in five minutes with no configuration required. Available on GitHub under an open-source license.
