Pluma

Pluma is a free, open-source AI copilot for Windows that runs as an overlay summoned with a single keystroke - Alt+P - and stays invisible until you need it. It writes, controls your desktop, browses the web, runs commands and remembers what you did, without a subscription and without sending your work to the cloud.

The capability set is unusually broad for a free tool. Ghost Writing rewrites, polishes, summarises or translates clipboard content in any tone through slash commands like /polite, /tldr and /doc. Computer Use sees your screen, moves the cursor, clicks and types - opening Chrome and completing the task rather than describing it. A Terminal Agent runs PowerShell, reads files and lists directories. RAG Memory remembers every session and searches past context with full-text matching, with no cloud sync involved. Screen vision, slash commands and the overlay UI tie the parts together.

Local-first operation is the design centre. Because memory and processing stay on your machine, there is no account to create and nothing uploaded, which is a materially different privacy posture from cloud assistants with equivalent features.

Pluma is free forever and open source, with published documentation. It is Windows-only. Best for Windows users who want a keyboard-summoned assistant with real system access and no subscription, and who are comfortable granting a local tool control of the desktop.
