Yellow Owl

Yellow Owl is an AI education app that builds critical thinking and real-world reasoning skills for children aged 9 to 13 through story-based learning. Drawing on Harvard's Project Zero thinking routines and aligned with the Skills Builder framework, it turns reading sessions into structured thinking exercises rather than passive screen time.

Every story follows a four-step thinking journey — Notice, Explain, Imagine, and Decide — where children pause at key story moments to observe clues, organise their thoughts, explore different perspectives, and reflect on the consequences of choices. Stories are levelled to each child's reading ability, with two tracks: Explorer (ages 9–10) for foundations of curiosity and concrete problem situations, and Navigator (ages 11–13) for complex ethical dilemmas and abstract reasoning.

Beyond independent reading, Yellow Owl includes Live Story Circles where children carry their reflections into group discussion, and Daily Challenges that extend thinking practice between stories. Parents receive Progress Insights showing which genres their child gravitates toward and which thinking skills they are actively developing. The platform is designed as a closed, ad-free environment with parent-controlled login and educator-vetted story content — making it a practical AI kids learning tool for families seeking structured cognitive development without advertising distractions.
