PlacePod

Updated September 2, 2026

Overview / Description

PlacePod is an on-device AI transcription app for iOS and Android that turns video and audio into subtitle files without uploading anything. One tap generates an .srt file, and translation into another language runs entirely on the phone across 13 supported languages - the vendor's central claim is that audio never leaves your device.

Beyond subtitling, it works as a media and file tool. It streams video from a NAS with subtitles attached and no download needed, plays any media that has a subtitle file alongside it, and provides full file management and sharing. The app opens on a digital clock lock screen; unlocking it reveals the file manager, and there is a hidden encrypted vault for files you would rather not surface in a normal browser.

The privacy design is the reason to choose it over a cloud transcription service: because both transcription and translation are local, recordings of meetings, interviews or private conversations are never transmitted to a vendor's servers. The trade-off is that on-device processing depends on your phone's hardware rather than a data centre. The marketing site is available in eight languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish and Vietnamese. Pricing is not published on the site.
